Dr. Daniel M. Smith DVM
Dr. Smith is the owner and director of Alburtis Animal Hospital. He completed both undergraduate and veterinary training at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
His veterinary degree was earned from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 1999. He practiced veterinary medicine in Chesapeake, VA, upon graduation until moving to the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania in 2001.
In June, 2001, he joined as an associate veterinarian at the Alburtis Animal Hospital where he has practiced through the current time.
He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Smith has an interest in canine hip dysplasia, and has received advanced training in performing the PennHIP radiographic technique for evaluating dogs for the presence of hip dysplasia as early as 16 weeks of age. He also has extensive experience with a range of canine and feline dental diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. He has special interests in canine and feline internal medicine and in providing thorough annual wellness evaluations to help his patients live full lives with a high quality of life. He has training in ultrasound techniques and performs various ultrasonographic diagnostic techniques.
Dr. Smith is also the Secretary and Finance Chair of the school board for Faith Christian Academy in Quakertown, PA.
He is married to Michelle and has a son and two daughters. -
Dr. Ashley D. Borrelli (Walker) DVM
Dr. Borrelli graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011 and returned to Alburtis Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian.
Her face may be familiar to you from her previous work here as a veterinary assistant while she completed her undergraduate degree at Cedar Crest College.
During veterinary school, Dr. Borrelli was a board member of her school's chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association and was an active member of her local community. She pursued additional training in her interests of ultrasound, internal medicine, and dentistry while in school.
She was very excited to return to the Alburtis Animal Hospital team and continue to be a part of your pet's care.

Tracie :
Tracie has worked, in some capacity, in the veterinary field for almost 25 years and graduated from Albright College with a BS in Psychobiology. She joined our team in 2018 and enjoys her dual role of veterinary receptionist and assistant. When not at work she is busy spending time with her amazing family and friends, running a small non-profit animal rescue/sanctuary and creating unique cakes for family and friend's special occasions. Her home is filled with furry, fuzzy and feathered friends.

Tonya :
Tonya joined our team in 2020 but has been caring for animals in the veterinary industry for over 20 years. She has been involved in everything from small animal medicine to orthopedics, acupuncture, behavioral health, and emergency care. Her passion for animals developed when she began rescuing animals as a young girl. Her uncle was a veterinarian who inspired her to spend her life nursing sick animals back to health. Some of her hobbies include enjoying music at live concerts, finding homes for strays, and spending quality time with family and friends. There are four special cats named Gato, Hiccup, Igor, and Elvira that have claimed her and her partner, Brett, as their own and continue to bring joy to their lives every day.

Mikalley :
Mikalley graduated from high school and went right into the veterinary field. She has been in the veterinary field for over 3 years now and enjoys her role as a receptionist. She joined our team in 2021. She has a guinea pig, Archie, but considers all the pets in her family as her own. She has more recently bonded closely with Nala, a Pug/Boston Terrier, who lives at her aunt’s house. When she is not at work, Mikalley enjoys relaxing with her guinea pig and hanging out with her baby cousins.

Carrie :
Carrie joined our team in 2021 having spent the past 8 years as a pet sitter. She rescued her first dog at the age of 4 and has always been an avid lover of animals. She has been fostering pets in need for the Sanctuary at Haafsville for the last 6 years. Her and her husband have three children, two dogs, four cats and two parakeets. In her spare time she enjoys crocheting and spending quality time snuggling her fur babies.

Beth CVT :
Beth became a member of our team in 2007. She is a Certified Veterinary Technician with a BS from Bucknell University. She has worked in the veterinary medical field for over 34 years. She has one dog named Helen who also works here, part time, as our Front Desk Biscuit Distribution Supervisor. When Beth is not hard at work here, she enjoys hanging out with Helen, embroidering, crocheting, and gardening.

Kristin :
Kristin has been in the veterinary field since 1999 and became a member of our team in 2009. She lives on a small farm in rural Berks county along with her husband, daughters and a menagerie of critters. In her spare time she enjoys hiking with her family, photography and beekeeping.

Cassy :
At the age of 17, Cassy enlisted in the Army National Guard. After training she began working at her local animal shelter. While there, she was sworn in as the Humane Police Officer where she investigated cruelty and neglect cases. Through this experience she realized she was happiest providing supportive therapy to the sick and injured animals. With over 10 years of experience in shelter medicine she decided to expand her abilities and began working here as a veterinary technician in 2018. She feels that now she can have the best of both worlds. She shares her home with her fiancé, four dogs, and two cats. Together they enjoy fostering homeless animals and kayaking with their dogs.

Olivia :
Olivia joined our team in 2020, having just graduated from Millersville University with a BS in Biology. She has had a love of animals since she was very young and always knew she wanted to work with and care for them. She has two dogs, two cats and two horsed that are all very spoiled. In her free time she likes horseback riding, playing ball with her dogs and going to the beach.

Amanda :
Amanda found her passion for the welfare of animals back in 2016 while working as a kennel attendant at a Greyhound rescue. In 2018 she began her journey into the veterinary field as a technician. She is currently in school striving to become a certified technician. She has one son who adores his cat brothers Xander Salamander and Wybie Sasquatch.

Lauren :
Lauren graduated at the University of Florida in 2021 majoring in animal biology. Whilst she was there she had the opportunity to join a club called Block and Bridle where they promote the interest and scholarship of animal science and agriculture as well as training and showing young Brahman bulls. She also had a great opportunity to work at a clinic in Florida as a vet assistant before moving back to PA. She has 2 dogs, an English Setter (London) and an English Cocker Spaniel (Bailey) and just welcomed the addition of 2 birds: a Millygold (Nadja) and a Caique (Nandor). In her spare time, she enjoys horseback riding and playing various instruments such as cello, flute, and piano.

Jade :
Jade graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor of Biology in 2022, just prior to joining our team. She is currently attending Long Island University for veterinary medicine and wants to work with small animals and exotics. Her cat, Baker travels to school with her, but at home she has dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds! In her free time, she loves to read, play pickle ball, and draw.

Christy CVT :
Christy graduated from Lehigh Carbon Community College in 2017 with an Associate in Veterinary Technology, but has been in the field for over a decade. She first fell in love with veterinary medicine while working as an assistant in North Carolina. This prompted a decision to move back to PA to finish schooling and become a Certified Veterinary Technician. Christy proudly notes “Helping animals every day is exactly how I want to spend the rest of my life.” She recently moved to Alburtis with her boyfriend and two cats. In her free time, she enjoys kayaking, gardening, crocheting, lots and lots of reading and cuddling with her fur babies Charlotte and Odin.

Zainab :
Zainab graduated from Cedar Crest College in 2022 with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Business Administration. She is currently a veterinary student at the University of Pennsylvania and, the vice president of the Veterinary Business Management Association. After graduation, she hopes to work as a small animal veterinarian, but is open to shelter medicine or emergency as well. Outside of school, she enjoys playing soccer, traveling, and hanging out with friends and family.

Laura :Practice Manager
Laura rejoined our practice in 2019. Some long-time clients may remember her from her previous time here as a technician from 2003-2005. She recently completed Olds College Veterinary Practice Management course and is working towards obtaining her CVPM (Certified Veterinary Practice Manager) certification. She currently resides in Berks county with her husband, two dogs, two cats, and other various small creatures. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, biking, running, kayaking, gardening, paintball, beekeeping, and anything that gets her outdoors.

Michelle :Bookkeeper
Michelle joined us in January, 2011, to fill the role of bookkeeper. She also stays busy at home and all around the Valley with 3 school age children who are highly involved in school activities along with community and school sports programs.

Helen :Front Desk Biscuit Distribution Supervisor
Helen has worked at the front desk for almost 6 years. In addition to monitoring the biscuit jar, her other duties include greeting people, mooching carrots from co-workers and napping under the desk. She also encourages employee fitness by asking to go outside as often as any co-worker will take her. The highlights of her working day are lunch and the arrival of the UPS man with his pocketful of biscuits. Helen's favorite activity at work or home is eating! When not at work her hobbies include walking in the park, eating grass in her backyard, terrorizing the local squirrel population and sleeping on the sofa.

Pibbs :
Formerly known as Carmine, Mr. Pibb (short for Mr. Pain In the Butt Boy) was a stray kitten who was adopted by the animal hospital in the fall of 2013. He is a super sweet and fluffy cat who has been and will continue to grow to be a good friend to those who visit our hospital for years to come.

Cheeto :
Cheeto was adopted by Alburtis Animal Hospital in the fall of 2013 to help keep Mr. Pibb company! He has a very sweet temperment and gets along with everybody.
